Dear Parents,

I hope you are enjoying your summer. All of us are anticipating an exciting
year of academic, social, and emotional growth for our students! Our teachers
have been in workshops this summer preparing for the new year, and we are
counting on you to partner with us to ensure student success. The first day of
school for first through fifth grade students is Tuesday, August 9th. Parents of
students in first through fifth grade are invited to attend Back to School Night and
bring school supplies and meet the teacher on Thursday, August 4th, from 5:30
to 6:30 p.m. Kindergarten parents will also have the opportunity to meet the
teacher during their child’s scheduled testing time. If you miss that day and time,
please feel free to bring or send supplies on the first day of school, but you will
not be able to meet with the teacher on that first day, as the teachers will be
attending to the needs of the students.

This year we are excited about partnering with community leaders who
support our school. Those leaders have volunteered to attend Back to School
Night and offer a delicious dinner plate of barbecue chicken, red beans and rice,
and tossed salad for a donation of ten dollars. Proceeds will go to the school.

School hours are 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

The following is a list of reminders:

• If your child will ride the bus and the afternoon drop off is different
from the pick up address, please complete a form in writing and
submit it to the office. If you do not submit a bus change in writing,
your child will be dropped off at the morning address on file.

• Car riding students should be dropped off at 7:05 and picked up at 2:30 at
the side entrance of the school. No student is allowed to be dropped off in
the school’s lobby before 7:05. Parents who bring their students to school
after 7:30 must sign the student in at the front office.

• If your child will be a bus rider, it is important for him/her to ride the bus the
first day, August 9th. A copy of the bus rules and transportation policy for
this year is attached for your convenience. Kindergarten students begin on
August 16th. If your child is a car rider, the car line will be on the side of
the building, not in front. The front is only for buses. There is no
parking allowed in this area during school hours.

• Uniforms are required for all students. Please see the uniform policy.

• A $15 materials fee is required for each child. Please be prepared to pay
at your earliest convenience, or send it to your child’s homeroom teacher
during the first week of school in a clearly marked envelope. Participation
in some activities may be limited until the materials’ fee is paid.

• Your child will receive a free lunch form within the first few days of school.
I am asking that a free lunch form be completed for each household.

• Please read dress code guidelines carefully. Violators of major dress code
expectations will not be allowed in class. Resist allowing your child to get
extreme hairstyles.

• Open House will be held on Thursday, August 25th from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30
p.m. This will be another opportunity for you to meet the teacher and get
more information about your child’s classroom.

• If you have any concerns about any aspect of your child’s schooling,
please feel free to contact the teacher, guidance counselor, assistant
principal or me. We welcome your inquiries.

Looking forward to our best year ever,

Dedra M. Bailey
